Welcome to BOKA. An award-winning NYC architecture firm creating sophisticated residences across the country.
For this waterfront Miami residence, Brian O’Keefe Architect designed the architectural interiors for a stunning newly constructed 35,000 square foot Classical inspired home. The goal was to have it look as if it had been around for generations. The inspirations for the interiors of this home were the wonderful villas and estates of the island of Barbados done by notable designers such as Oliver Messel. The floor plan arrangement of the home is classical with a symmetrical interior courtyard (cortile) concept and perfectly proportioned rooms. This type of layout creates beautiful extended interior views from one room to the next, enabling you to experience the expanse of the home, but not feel overwhelmed.
The materials palette for the interior took its cues from those used on the exterior of the house which is clad with a combination of beautiful island coral stone and tinted authentic stucco. The owner dreamed of beautiful ceilings in the home, so BOKa designed many historically inspired ceilings including a wonderful walnut coffer ceiling, octagonal ceiling design, and English manor inspired plaster ceiling. The many moldings and paneling designs were inspired from classical and historical design precedents. The floors of the home are wide plank solid walnut boards with a deep rich stain to anchor the rooms. The other materials used in the interior of this spectacular residence consist of natural woods such as reclaimed French Limestone, Mahogany, Butternut, White Oak, and Walnut with expert custom stains and finishes applied by master skilled artisans. The beautiful stones throughout the house include coral stone, Emperador, Carrerra, Crema Marfil, Azul Celeste, Azul Macauba, and Noir St. Laurent to name a few.
The interior decor created by renowned Interior Designer Marjorie Shushan includes custom developed paint treatments, furniture, fantastic antiques, fabrics, and accessories. All of which are artfully combined to achieve the owner’s goal of making the house feel comfortable and inviting, but not ostentatious.
