This architecture project was a major renovation in which BOKA carefully transformed a stately 16,000 square foot New York City townhouse in a Landmark district, with an existing French Neoclassical limestone and granite façade, from a haphazardly arranged office building and returned it to its original intended use as a stunning home for a young, energetic and philanthropic family. Brian O’Keefe Architect deftly navigated the design and construction administration process simultaneously in order to bring the project to completion. In addition to preserving and maintaining some of the existing beautiful interior elements, the renovation also involved new structural work, new mechanical systems, refurbishing of the fireplaces, new electrical, lighting, home control and security systems, as well as new plumbing and fixtures.

In order to create beautifully appointed interiors that are reminiscent of the grand New York City historic townhouses new details and finishes such as moldings, paneling, cabinetry, stone and tile work had to be added to many of the spaces with careful detailing especially when juxtaposed with original existing moldings and details that were to remain and be restored.

The interiors were executed by renowned Interior Designer Richard Keith Langham utilizing fantastic decorative paint treatments such as the faux limestone treatment of the main stair balustrade. Keith selected and designed furniture, fabrics, custom carpets, detailed window treatments, fabulous antique finds including fireplace mantels and chandeliers, and accessories that together with our renovation set the backdrop for the owner’s growing art and furniture collections.
