“One of the more troublesome of today’s design dictates is that no matter what sort of interior you prefer, the decor of your beach house should go with the setting, and not with you. So if you have a place in the Hamptons, it should look like the Hamptons—an easy, breezy life of big slipcovered sofas piped in blue, clean white sheets, yellow Labradors, and a vintage red roadster parked outside—good old primary-color American style that, like the sand on the beach, seems to be ever,here. Anything else, the thinking goes, is like going to a lobster joint and ordering corn. beef on rye. But some people just don’t like lobster.
